Productivity growth will help India sustain over 8% growth until 2020 and become the second largest economy in the world, ahead of the US, by 2050, Goldman Sachs says in their BRICs report.
The original report had projected that India's GDP would outstrip Japan's by 2032 and that in 30 years, it would be the world's third largest economy after China and the US.
The new report goes one step further by moving India up from No. 3 and No. 2 in the global sweepstakes of tomorrow.
The underlying reasons are:
1) increased openness to trade
2) investment in information and communication technology and
3) greater financial deepening.
So we are going to outbeat the giant in the coming years!!!!..CONGRATS!!! to each one of us....as we are all contributors to the same in our own ways!!!!

This is just an prediction with the current economy growth. But with our BRILLIANT POLITICIANS those are interested more in their PERSONAL growth than the NATION's growth, its a "BIGGGGG QUESTION ?????"
India can overtake U.S even by 2020, if we have HONEST YOUNG POLITICIANS who cares about our nation....
U r absolutely CORRECT....its all in our hands...TO MAKE IT OR BREAK IT!!!! but we should always hope for the best and i hope as per your prediction it happens by 2020 itself!!
